Improv Workshops for Performers
Individual Coaching- I offer individual coaching via skype to performers and coaches. For performers I can help you develop habits and tricks you can bring to the stage to help you keep improv fun, break your patterns to make new choices and come up with a plan to deal with problematic scenes. For coaches I can work with you creating exercises specific to your team to meet their needs, discuss giving positive but helpful notes and help you break out of "format" thinking and develop and overall goal or vision for your team.
Silence and Emotion- Silence and Emotion are two of the most powerful, and underused, tools an improviser has to work with on stage. Strong emotional choices give characters depth and make choices easier for the performer.Silence gives scenes time to breathe, for tension to grow and give more power to the performers on stage.
This workshop will help performers make stronger emotional choices, become more comfortable with silence, learn how to move scenes forward without speaking and build scenes using emotion.
What's Going On?- How have you watched, or worse yet been in, an improv scene where everybody seems to be talking and doing stuff, but nothing is going? The audience, and performers, are left wondering "What was that even about?"
Usually these scenes happen because nobody can agree what the scene is about or things keep getting added into a scene until it is impossible to have any idea what is happening.
In this workshop we'll be focusing on games that will focus on listening and "yes anding" in a way that will help you get to the point faster and allow for more time for fun!
Improv is Fun!- Remember when you first started taking improv classes and it was the most fun you ever had? And then you started taking more class, and thinking more about 'the rules' and wondering constantly what you were 'supposed to do' in your scenes? And then you got on a house team and constantly rehearsing and performing became more of drag than an uplifting, fun experience?
In this workshop we'll focus on games that get back to the fun of improv and teach us to stop thinking about how to improvise and return to enjoying the moment.

We had the opportunity to have L.E.Zarling teach and it was the perfect artistic boost my community needed. Her 'Silence and Emotion' workshop provided my students with new tools and she was able to reach them in a way that was not only challenging but also supportive and inspiring. They all walked away commenting on how it was the perfect complement to their skill set. L.E. is extremely knowledgeable in improvisation and a master teacher.

L.E. taught and performed at our first improv festival. L.E. had such a fun, casual, humorous way with students that she quickly established an environment where we could work with depth and trust. L.E. has an uncanny way of giving very specific and “dead on” feedback. She can adjust a scene while also providing space for students to feel comfortable exploring and taking risks. L.E. has years of experience and knowledge that she poured with enthusiasm and insight into her teaching. Plus, she’s just pretty fun to hang out with and she’s a great performer. I will definitely invite L.E. back!
